U11  Fleet Lions  5  Woking & Maybury  1  (Cup)
The outcome of this match was rather academic once we were informed that the opposition were preparing to play with only six players! So a full strength Lions team gradually got on top and dominated for the first 25 minutes. Match won leading by 5-0 and threatening the proverbial cricket score. Hat trick to Rory Venter, Adam Deedman's first of the season, and Alfie Jones were the Lions scorers. The Lions then switched off for the final five minutes, stopped passing, went to individual dribbling and allowed Woking a consoilation goal. Both coaches decided to call it full time at half time to avoid an unbalanced second half which the Lions' numerical supoeriority would have ensured.

U11  Fleet Lions  0  Elm Grove Tornadoes  2  (SPL Premier League)
A second close match this season, a second defeat for the Lions in what was a reversal of the previous match in terms of chances created and converted. This was a proverbial war of attrition, as the Lions battled hard throughout, matched their opponents and ultimately lost to two defensive mistakes in a match where both defences were generally on top and both goalkeepers were relatively untroubled. It's not often we can use these words to describe Lions' matches. Fists half was close and in fact the Lions shaded it showing an appetite for the ball and working extremely hard to nullify the opposition and to create chances. We went behind when we lost possession in our half and a jinking run and shot put the tornadoes ahead. The Lions threatened an equaliser throughout the half but apart from Alfie's one on one with the keeper which the keeper saved, we we restricted to a number of long range shots which did not trouble the keeper. Second half was even tighter as both sides found it hard to create any clear cut chances and ultimately a defensive mistake handed the points to the tornadoes. Try as they could only a half chance from a corner was the best the Lions could muster. An atypical Lions display ......

U11  Staines Llamas Whites  6  Fleet Town Lions  4  (SPL Premier League)
The Lions first game of the season; goals galore; chances aplenty; end to end stuff; and the feeling that we missed the boat in the end and probably did not deserve to lose. In the end, despite strong individual performances by the whole team, the feeling was the we did not defend well as a unit for the goals and ultimately paid the price. It finished 6-4; it could have been 10 apiece yet midway through the second half the Lions led 2-1 thanks to two goals from Alfie Jones - the second of which registers as an early contender for goal of the season a run and curling shot into the top corner. Howver similar to the first half the Lions allowed the oppsitionan almost immediate equaliser. A twenty yard free kick into our top corner then put the Llammas ahead for the first time and they stretched the lead to 4-2 before Chris Horlock struck a fine goal to pull the score back to 4-3. Two sloppy gaols then saw Stainess pull away to 6-3 with ten minutes to go. But credit the Lions - they fought and MoM Alfie pulled a goal back with a tremendous header from a Jack Knight corner to end the scoring. We all thought we should have had a penalty when Alfie was unceremoniously pushed in the box - and who knows we created a few chances in the last few minutes that had it been 6-5 it could have been a more than interesting finish. So near yet so far on this one.
