The Junior Section consists of all of our Mini-Soccer teams, from Under 5 to Under 10. All our junior squads play in the Surrey Primary League or North East Hants Youth League.  Teams at Under 7 and Under 8 play non-competitive matches. Mini-Soccer is a 7-a-side version of the game, specifically developed by The FA, for children up to Under 10. It is based on a simplified version of Association Football rules.

We have up to five squads in any age group, with around 10 players per squad. This season there are 15 registered squads made up of  five U10s, four U9s, five U8s and one U7; with approximately 175 registered players. All squads are coached by FA Level 1 or Level 2 qualified coaches. The Junior section  also has additional specialist coaches for certain key positions e.g. Goalkeepers. Professional coaches are also brought in, from time to time, to develop both the children and the club’s coaches – who are all volunteer parents with children playing at the club.

All Junior squads train at Calthorpe Park on a Saturday morning, split over two one-hour training sessions. The first is at 9:15am and the second at 10:15am. All matches are played on a Sunday morning, on a home and away basis. All squads are allocated to a league and will also participate in Cup matches. The Surrey Primary League (SPL) seeds teams according to ability and each team is allocated into a league made up of teams of similar ability. This way all teams get a fair chance at competing and so create maximum enjoyment for the children.

In line with FA guidelines the club also has a policy of grouping players by ability. We believe this is how children will best develop their abilities and get the most out of their football with Fleet Town Colts. It also means we are able to offer football to children of all abilities as our squads compete from Division 1 right through to Division 8.

Squads are normally set at the start of the season and are reviewed at each ‘transfer window’ allowed by the SPL – October, December and February.

As players develop they may move from one squad to another at these transfer windows. Our approach is fully described in the development through the Age Groups.

The U5’s and U6’s also do not play competitive matches, but get to experience the ‘beautiful game’ at our Saturday Morning Club. See The Nursery for details.

The Junior Section is run by the Junior Section Coordinator, Jim Mulcahy, together with the Junior Section Management Team made up of each age group’s Age Group Coordinator.
