U10  Hart Harriers  1  Fleet Town Spartans  4  (SPL Div 4)
A fanastic win for the Spartans in this local derby. Even a last minute withdrawal of Louis was not going to put Spartans off today. This all happened after we had given Hart a player and instead of having 9 with 3 substitutes, we ended up 7 v 7. Matthew took over the keepers jersey and gloves and performed well. Indeed his main action was trying to keep warm as the Spartans put on a polished performance shutting Hart down in the final third. The game kicked off with Hart the stronger team, but the defending was excellent, with MoM Ben Cronin closing everything down, ably supported by Mark. Although we conceded a number of corners, Matthew only had one shot to save all game. After absorbing the pressure we started to assert ourselves and after a couple of corners, we deservedly took the lead through Bill. Half time came and went and we were raring to go again. Some excellent work in midfield from Jonny led to Bill striking a second. We then had a slight hiccup when Hart got a scrambled goal following a speculative cross. OUr heads didn't go down though and some fine work from Bill and Tiernan led to a chance for Spencer, who hit a great goal with his left foot. We continued to put Hart under pressure and forced their defence into an error which gave Spencer his second. A fine game all round and thoroughly deserved, in particular, we squeezed out their star player to record a fine win. Special mention to Nathan, who won the Effort award for the second week for agreeing to play for Hart. In fact he was only going to play for one half, but stayed with them after we had to change our plan following the withdrawal of Louis at the last moment.

U10  Fleet Town Spartans  0  Teddington Athletic  3  (SPL Div 4)
A really slow start to the game this week when just about everything that could go wrong did, although the boys did hang in there. However, the second half performance was much improved and we more than matched the league leaders and deserved a goal for our efforts. Following a well worked and well finished first goal, we really needed to get stuck in, however, we never really got stcuk in through the rest of the half. The second was a little unfortunate, while the third was summed it all up, where everyone left it to roll in. Half-time couldn't come fast enough. And what a difference the second half was, we suddenly decided to make a game of it an more than matched Teddington, who the week before thrashed Brooklands.

U10  Fleet Town Spartans  3  Chertsey Town Whites  0  (Cup)
A good performance from the Spartans as they were a lot sharper and competitive in the tackle than last week. All that training paid off in the end! We started off quite well and although it was quite even, we were in control. We rounded off the period with a great header by Tiernan from a corner from Matthew. We then entered a period of rapid substitutions, reflecting the fact we still need to tie our laces better! Chertsey had a few corners, but Louis generally dominated his area ensuring that although under pressure we didn't concede. Ben and CJ looked assured at the back. We started the second half weakly and were getting overrun in midfield. We seemed to have forgotten how to win the ball. A swift change to bring Tiernan back on settled the team down again and we started to create chances. Bill was first running through and just shooting wide. We then scored a sublime goal, a fine move down the right started by Jonny who crossed for Bill. Bill layed a nice little pass off to Mark, who struck a ferocious shot off his weaker left foot that flew into the top corner. This settled us down again and we started to play some nice football and started to create chance after chance. Matthew not to be outdone by Mark, then struck an absolute cracker of his own. Cutting in from the right, just as he got into the area, he unleashed a screamer that flew across the keeper and into the net off the right post. We continued to press and played some nice football with Finlay in the unfamiliar right-back slot combining well with Jonny down the right. Although, Chertsey hit the bar late on from a free kick, we pushed on to record a good win. MoM to Tiernan for his control of centre midfield and tenacious tackling, a lesson on getting stuck in for the others. Effort award to Matthew for his tireless running up front and a nice strike.

U10  Meadow Sports Youth  3  Fleet Town Spartans  1  (SPL Div 4)
Spartans were below par in this game and lost out to a team that played some really nice football at times. We started out well enough with Mark doing a good job at left-back and Ben working well in defence and the midfield of Jonny, Finlay and Matthew workign hard with Bill up-front. But gradually Meadow started to get the chances and Louis was called on to make some solid saves. He had no chance for either of the goals before half time, the second of which was really well worked leaving a tap-in following a nice run down the wing and a centre. Spartans started the second half a lot better and almost created a chance immediately. Eventually we got a goal from Matthew Cairns who ran through an finished with aplomb. It actually came from one of our best tackles of the day, with Finlay nicking the ball from a player as they were surging forward. I was expecting us to push on then and we had our moments, but we ended up on the defensive again. Despite some really good saves from Louis and some good last ditch tackling from CJ, Meadow scored again the seal the result. Mom - Mark EW - CJ
