Another week when the performance justified a better result. A slow start saw Walton take the led with their first attack within a minute. Fortunately Spartans regrouped led by Effort winner Mark Walter and had the better of the remainder of the half without managing to score.
The second half saw the Spartans playing into a strong wind, but they continued to have the better of the game. However against the run of play Walton scored a second. Straight from the kick-off though a sublime pass from Jonny Gammer saw MoM Ben Longmore score. This seemed to give Spartans confidence and another nice move and pass from Jonny Gammer allowed Ben Longmore to slot his second. Spartans continued to play brightly and looked to get the winner, but were caught by a third for Walton. The game ebbed and flowed but Spartans couldn't find the equaliser.
A dissappointing result, but a well fought game with both sides committed despite the windy conditions.

Spartans battled hard led by some fine tackling from MoM Gerard Campbell, but were beaten by second place Woking in another game closer than the score suggests. Two well taken goals the first a strike by Danny Barden from a corner from Jonny and the second a lovely shot from Effort winner Jonny Gammer from a through ball by Ben Cronin.

Football's a funny game they say and this match was a classic example. Horsley the league leaders were pushed all the way in this game, when nothing went Spartans way. After a patchy start, Spartans took the lead with a lovely worked goal as Danny Barden was put through by Chris Jones following a nice midfield move. Then almost immediately, Horsley stuck back as a sliced cross flew into the top corner. However the Spartans keep their heads up and worked hard even when Jonny Gammer had to leave with an injured ankle. Although Spartans were under pressure, they contained Horsley to some long range shots. However, not long before half-time a lovely dribble from the Horsley centre-forward gave them the lead.
Spartans continued to play well after the break with everyone working hard from front to back. Indeed, we created the better chances and were incrediably unlucky when a move involving, Ben C, Harry and James saw Danny put through to strike a lovely shot that crashed against the inside of the post and fell back into the keepers hands. To rub salt into the wounds, Horsley then got a break which saw round the keeper to mke it 3-1. A well-taken goal which showed why they are top of the league. This was followed by two late scrappy goals.
The scoreline was harsh, especially on MoM keeper Ben Longmore who commanded his area superbly and made some solid saves. effort went to Danny Barden, but it was so close as everyone played so well. In my view our best game of the season.

Spartans knew this was going to be tough, but started off well taking the game to the all-conquering Division 3 League Leaders. They took the lead through a fine header from MoM CJ following a sweeping move down the right involving Danny, Jonny and Ben Cronin. However a two momentary lapses just before half-time gave Hersham the lead despite the some good keeping from Effort winner James Wilkes.
The second half started with the Spartans optimistic they could get back on level terms, but intense pressure from a very strong Hersham side earned 3 more goals and sealed the match. Credit to the Spartans though they kept going and created chances themselves and it was only an unfortunate own goal from Bradley that gave Hersham another goal.
Although the result was worse than when we played them in the leagure, we played a lot better and deserved more from the game. Still, we can get back to the league next week.

Another close game that saw Spartans squeeze home in another close game. Spartans played with the wind and had the better of the initial exchanges and came close following some flowing moves down the right. However, Meadow were creating chances and took the lead. Credit to Spartans they didn't give up and a meat through ball from Ben Cronin set up Danny Barden for the equaliser. Spartans continued to press and almost took the lead when James Wilkes hit the bar from close-in.
Turning round into a strong wind, Spartans struggled to win the ball, but were still dangerous on the break. Indeed, they took the lead though a well-worked goal from Ben Longmore following a great move down the right involving Jonny Gammer. However, this signalled a sustained period of pressure from Meadow Sports which required tenacious defending. Spartans looked to be coping until an unfortunate handball led to a penalty, however it was blasted over. A goal did come though from a long ball and the game looked to be heading for a draw. However, in a rare break and a fantastic through ball from Ben Cronin, Jonny Gammer chased through and following a richocet the ball fell back to Ben Cronin to slot into the net. A few frantic minutes followed, but Spartans hung on for another good win.
MoM when to Jonny for a good display on the right, while the effort went to the whole team for not giving up.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that we play Guildford at their ground and it was a close game that ended 0-0. The return game followed the same pattern and was a tense affair. Guildford started stronger, but we gradually got into the game and created the better chances. This culminated in a lovely move starting in the middle of the pitch a pass from Danny found Jonny, who delivered a perfect cross for Ben Longmore to notch his first of the season. We restricted Guildford to long range shots, but Ben Cronin who put in a MoM performance in goal was called on to make a couple of fine saves.
The second half followed the pattern of the first and we looked pretty comfortable until a slip let Guildford in to draw level. We then looked a little frail for a while and Ben Cronin came to the rescue again with one particularly fine closing down of their player in a one-on-one. We were still playing nice football however and managd to break into their area, when for the second game on the trot James Wiles was scythed down. Danny Barden stepped up and thumped an unstoppable shot into the top right corner of the net.
From there we held on reasonably well and led by some tight defending on his debut from effort winner Bradley Gibbs, and including a thumping defensive header from Sam McCabe, we made it to record the first win of the season.
All in all a good game, which we were rewarded for a good all round team performance.

A tough game for the Spartans against a Hersham side that has got off to a good start this season. Despite bein under pressure Spartans took the lead through a well taken penalty from MoM Danny Barden which had been earned by the tenacious James Wilkes. Hersham pressure was rewarded in the second half as they scored 5 without reply, despite a good display from Effort winner Chris Jones and goalie Louis Baker.

A tight game of few chances saw the Spartans keep a clean sheet for the first time this season. Spartans created chances especially down the left side led by MoM Harry Cushen, but had goalie Effort Winner Mark Walter to thank for a penalty save in the second half.
